When we arrived at the venue, which was a little club in the city, there were some members of House vs. Hurricane sitting outside drinking beer and one of the guitarists of Betraying The Martyrs sat there and read a book. Since we had to wait for my interview to start, we just watched them and wondered who belongs to which band and who does what for the band.
After around one and a half hours, the guys from Parachutes were done with their soundcheck and came out for a quick interview (I'll upload it in a second). It was super nice chatting with them, they were so easy going and really comfortable to be around. Huge thanks to Carsten and David for turning my first interview ever into such a great experience!
After the interview, we went to have some dinner and ended up eating pasta at an art gallery or something, coolest place I ever had dinner at.
At around 7.30pm we arrived at the venue again because we thought that was when they opened the entrance but apparently they had already opened it at 7, so we missed half of Parachute's set (sorry guys!!). However, they were amazing, especially since they don't do this band thing for a living but have some other jobs, too. I hope I'll see them again some time!
The second band literally tore the place apart. I didn't even know who House vs. Hurricane were and that they also played that night until they showed up and offered a show which heated up the atmosphere, got people into mosh pits and got the band at least one more fan.
These guys are sick, I'll definitely have a closer look at their latest album soon!
I checked out band number three before the show because they're signed at Sumerian Records just like Asking Alexandria which made me curious. Betraying The Martyrs are from Paris, France, their vocalist is english and their drummer is russian though.
Remember how I told you about the guy peacefully reading a book? Yeah, the same guy went totally crazy on stage a few hours later. Every now and then you only saw his blonde curls twirling, just before he almost left the stage and decided to say hi to us fans in the first row.

Usually there's some huge guy standing in front of me at concerts, this time I had a pretty nice view to the stage.
I've never seen Of Mice & Men or Suicide Silence live, but Aaron Matts, vocalist in Betraying The Martyrs, reminded me a lot of Austin Carlile and Mitch Lucker. Just referring to videos of these two performing and the way Aaron acts and appears on stage.
This was also the first time I was actually sad when the supporting bands left the stage because I really enjoyed watching all of them!
However, it was finally time for Memphis May Fire. I was so so so excited to see them that I needed a moment to realise that they actually stood right in front of me and performed.
As expected they started with Without Walls, I suppose you can imagine how amazing it was when the whole crowd shouted the lyrics at the beginning.

I honestly didn't keep the order of the songs in mind, so sorry if I mix it up. I think the next song they played was Alive In The Lights, followed by Legacy. Matty held a little speech before it and told us about how his school counsellor asked him what he wanted to do with his life. When he said he'd like to be the voice of a generation, she shrugged it off and sent him back to class and now look at him. For me it was the best moment of the whole night to sing along to the lyrics which mean so much to me.
They also played some songs of their second album The Hollow and their EP Between The Lies but I couldn't sing along to these so I tried to take some pictures.
I'm still amazed at Matty's performance. He sang, screamed, ran around on stage and talked to the crowd all in one set with only taking little breaks. I'm also amazed at the fact that his band will play main stage at Warped Tour in the US this year and here in Germany they play in a little club. I'm so glad I attended this concert, not just because of Memphis May Fire but also because it gave me the opportunity to discover three new, awesome bands.
What are your concert experiences concerning the bands I saw last night? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions!
